Top 10 Reasons to Prefer Evangelism over Riding a Bus – #1
The wait is over. Share the Savior is pleased to present our Number 1 reason to prefer evangelism over riding a bus…
Someone Else Already Paid the Fare
Senior citizens get a significant discount on the bus and some transit agencies give reduced prices to people with disabilities. The more common equation is, you ride, and you pay.
God sits in the bus driver’s chair, patiently waiting for riders to board, always waiving off their attempts to pay. So committed is He to this ‘no pay’ policy, that He will refuse passage to a rider if they insist on paying their fare share. As the greatest demonstration of His love for us, He has arranged for a paid-in-full pass to be placed on file with the office of His HEART (Heavenly Eternal Area Resurrection Transit), redeemable for all who request one.

#2 – There’s always room for more riders
You can squeeze a lot of people onto a bus, and squeeze is sometimes the operative word, like a human sardine can on wheels. Eventually though, the driver shuts the door, even if it’s in the face of a needy passenger.
Giving any thought that there might be a maximum number of people God will allow you to share the gospel with doesn’t even need to enter our head. Instead, we can have a picture of endless fields ready for harvest, and scattered throughout the field, a few workers. We’re invited to join those laboring for the Father, with the assurance that harvesting will continue right up until the day he returns for us.

#3 – Your driver will never misjudge a turn
A bus fails to navigate a bend in the road and sails off the highway. It happens rarely but when it does, lives are altered or destroyed in a moment. The losses are tragic and the pain, real.
The phrase, ‘leave the driving to us’ fits God perfectly. With precision and perfection, He has safely navigated the spiritual roadways of billions of riders. And just as important, we never have to worry about His streak of success ending.

#4 – It’s truly a great ride
A bus will get you from point A to B, with largely trouble free operation. You’ll be protected from the cold and rain, and have a ‘comfortable’ seat. But those aren’t even listed in the brochure God has prepared for the Christian who shares the gospel.
We get to experience the power of God up close. We see it first in our life, as we reach out with His love to people, with a desire and commitment that is not of ourselves. Our unselfish love, provided and strengthened by the hand of God, propels us down a spiritual route as surely as a large engine powers a bus.

#5 – You’ll never have to worry about a lack of funding
If your local transit agency isn’t reducing or combining routes, they’re decreasing the frequency of rides. Economic times can bring these types of necessary cutbacks. Your involvement with evangelism, however, will never be short of funds.
God’s resources are limitless. He can open a floodgate of finances with a thought, release unimaginable levels of love through the most unloving vessels, and deliver any necessary resource at the exact time it’s needed and in the precise amount required. When you’re actively sharing your faith, you’ll always be under the protective, loving hand of God.

#6 – Getting there can be a great part of the trip
A bus is no Mercedes Benz. In some ways, it’s not even as good a ride as a top of the line mountain bike. The ride we took to Christ, however, makes any luxury car look like a child’s busted bike. And that’s the ride in store for those we’re sharing Christ with.

#7 – The potential destination is infinitely better
Home can be a great place to return to, but at the end of the day, whether you live in a suburbs or the bustle of some large city, you’ll never be able to create the warmth that God can in the home he’s prepared for us. And that home, so carefully set aside for us, may be the future home of the person you’re evangelizing. Hope that helps get you off the bus and into the harvest field.

#8 – Each person’s spiritual route is determined by God
The destination may change but to move people from one place to another requires a plan. A bus system uses a faulty method to determine their routes. By virtue of man’s limitations, it can involve a lack of foresight, budgetary constraints, conflicts of interest, and some good old fashioned mistakes.
God, on the other hand, brings unlimited resources, perfect wisdom, clear vision into the future, and perfect justice and love to the planning table. Lovingly and powerfully, He moves people toward the Savior. avoiding all the trouble spots on the highway in the process. I want to be part of His ‘transit system’. Don’t you?

#9 – Conversation is encouraged
Have you ever noticed how quiet people can be on a bus? With people just inches apart but miles from communicating, it’s a picture of loneliness in the midst of plentiful potential relationships. Evangelism, on the other hand, is all about relating to others. In fact, if you’re not building honest relationships, characterized by deepening love, you might want to skip sharing your faith completely and get a frequent rider pass on your local bus line.
